Obituary for William C. Heilemann

January 28, 1933 - August 29, 2021
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | Age 88

William C. Heilemann, of Philadelphia, passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021. He was 88 years old. Willie, as he was known affectionately by his family and friends, was born in Philadelphia on January 28, 1933 to the late William E. Heilemann and the late Margaret O. (née Simon) Heilemann.

Willie was raised in Olney and graduated from Dobins High School in 1951. Several years after, he was drafted into the Korean War and was awarded several medals of honor for his brave and dedicated service, notably, The Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation by the government of South Korea for outstanding performance in defense of the Republic of Korea of allied military service to South Korea during the Korean War.

Following his honorable army experience, Willie went on to study Metallurgy and pursued a lasting career as a Sheet Metal Worker for Remington Rand electronics Company. He then worked for Baeuerle & Morris before his transfer to The Navy Yard until, ultimately, he landed a coveted position with US Postal Service as an Electrical Engineer following his intensive studies at the University of Oklahoma, where he remained until his retirement at the age of 70.

Willie always enjoyed the great outdoors ever since he was a youth in the Boy Scouts. His passion for camping and hiking with his fellow scouts offered him unforgettable times. He often talked about his endless summer days at Treasure Island as "the best times of his life." He and his comrades formed a group in their adulthood known as the Trailblazers. Together they shared their life-long interest in outdoor activities well into their later life, sharing fond memories of years past. Singing became an interest as Willie was involved with the Franklinville men's chorus group traveling to regional German events. He was also a long-time member of two well-known German clubs, The Vereiningung Erzgebirge and the Cannstatter-Voklsfest Verein, for over 50 years.

Willie was very talented with hands as a mastery carpenter remodeling his home and single-handedly rebuilt a kitchen for his wife. Additionally, he applied his skills with the making of glass-stained Tiffany lamps. At the same time, he became an avid photographer throughout his adult life, which became an ongoing hobby. Willie also took time away from home with his wife and often traveled to foreign lands on a cruise and experienced various cultures in the places he visited.

We shall forever remember Wille as he was and keep him in our thoughts from this day forward.

Willie is survived by his wife Nancy (née Schuett) Heilemann and three of his children: Linda N. Daniels (Richard), William Heilemann, Nancy Gumba (the late Wayne), and is predeceased by his daughter Dianna Francabandera. He is survived also by his grandchildren: Philip J. Francabandera III (Heather), Christopher M. Trickel, Matthew J. Trickel (Katherine), Tiffany D. Gumba, and his great grandchildren: Abigail V. Trickel, Axel D. Trickel, and Luca D. Francabandera. Willie was predeceased by his brother, Walter W. Heilemann and is survived by his sister in law Ruth Heilemann, and his nephew Walter P. Heilemann (Ann).
