Obituary

Thomas J. Plunkett, age 82, of Philadelphia, passed away with his family and long time partner of 30 years, Elaine Schock, at his side July 27, 2020 at Holy Redeemer Hospital in Meadowbrook, PA. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late John and Mary Plunkett.

He is survived by his sons: Patrick (Lisa), Terence, Kevin, Grant, and Justin (Lisa); and was married to their mother Ellen (Gallagher) for 22 years. He will be sadly missed by his 10 grandchildren (Maeghan, Julia, Erin, Conor, Dylan, Emily Ann, Tyler, and Ella), his great grandson (Liam), his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and by all who knew him. He was well loved and will be missed by Elaine's children and grandchildren. He was a Friend of Bill. Tom was preceded in death by his sister Helen, and by his brothers Frank and John.

His family is his legacy.

Tom graduated from St Joseph's Prep and went on to receive his bachelors from St Joseph's University. He proudly served in the US Army, including work in intelligence and a tour in Turkey.

He retired from Kelly Services as Regional Vice President. He established Plunkett Temporary Services in West Chester, PA. Once retired, he loved returning to the beach, especially Ocean City, NJ, where he spent many summers with his sons and extended family.

He loved The History Channel and he was a life long learner of history and combat. He also enjoyed reading, watching ships travel the Delaware River and loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus (Holmesburg Council #1284) and reached Third Degree.
He always had a tissue to share, a swirl to give, a York Peppermint Pattie that appeared from nowhere, and a treat in his pocket for any dog he may stumble upon.

Relatives and friends are invited to Thomas' Life Celebration Tuesday; August 4th from 9 to 10am at St Katherine of Siena Church 9700 Frankford Ave. Philadelphia, followed by his Memorial Mass at 10am. His interment will be in St. Dominic Cemetery. A memorial service is tentatively planned for May 22, 2021, to celebrate his life when times allow larger indoor gatherings.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial contributions made in his name to The Children's Brain Tumor Tissue Consortium at https://cbttc.org
