Obituary

Gerardo C. Cabatu, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully at his residence, on July 17, 2022 at the age of 84. Son of the late Ildefonso and Consuelo Cabatu. Beloved husband of the late Florida (née Sinnung). Devoted father of Marlene (husband Samuel) Ochabillo and Marietta (husband Anthony) Obfenda. Loving grandfather of Patrick, Melanie, Madeline, Abigail, Nathaniel, Emma, Melissa, Olivia, Jamie and Jacob. Dear brother of Virginia, Germelinda, Remedios, Eufrocina, Loreto, the late Cleofe Sr. and the late Amante.
He was born and raised in Narvacan Ilocos Sur, Philippines and is a proud graduate of the University of the Philippines. Gerardo was first and foremost a dedicated family man. He was happily married to Florida for over 40 years. In 1972, he came to America to pursue a better life for his wife and two daughters. He worked hard and sacrificed much to support not only his own family in America but also his family in the Philippines. He retired from Temple University as a Postal Clerk after over 20 years of service.
Gerardo was also committed to serving Church and Filipino communities. For several years, he served as a sacristan and eucharistic minister at St. Augustine Church. He was a member of the St. Augustine Choir and former board member of the Ilocano Cultural Association of Greater Philadelphia.
He enjoyed planting in his garden, taking care of his koi pond, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to Gerardo's Life Celebration Wednesday, July 20th, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.at the Geitner Givnish Funeral Home 6230 N. 5th St Philadelphia, PA and on Thursday, July 21st, from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at St. James Church; 8320 Brookside Avenue. Elkins Park, PA.19027 followed by his Funeral Mass, at 11:00 a.m. His Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
