Obituary for Eleanor Rita Devine

July 6, 1944 - September 17, 2021
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | Age 77

Eleanor Rita Devine gained her angel wings on September 17, 2021, at home, surrounded by her loved ones. She was 77 years old. Eleanor was a lifetime Philadelphia area resident and parishioner of Saint Ambrose Catholic Church. She loved her dogs (Molson, Becky, Susie, Puckie and Frankie), the Eagles, Phillies, fireworks at Penn's Landing, Mummers Parade, The Philadelphia Zoo, soft pretzels, hot dogs, peanut chews, Rita's Water Ice (mango gelati), TastyKake, Stephen King novels, travel to the Jersey Shore/Florida Beaches, Williamsburg -Virginia, and Nashville. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.

From an early age, her dream was to get married and have a large family. After high school, Eleanor went on to get her broadcasting license and accounting certifications. She began an almost 30-year career at the Department of Treasury as an Auditor/Tax Examiner. She retired in 2017 at the age of 72. She was highly decorated with over 25 awards and commendations which included the Treasury Departments' highest honor, the Albert Gallatin Award.

Extremely humble, honest, kind, selfless, determined, generous, patient, funny, directionally impaired, loyal, and loving are all words that could describe Eleanor.

Eleanor's children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. The legacy of Eleanor's kind and humble spirit, passion for sports, love of reading & music, and zest for life will live on through them. She is an inspiration to all who knew her.

Eleanor will be remembered as a devoted Mother/Father, Grammy, Great-Grammy, and Aunt. Eleanor is survived by her six children - Russ, Steve (Paula), Sharon, Eric, Lori (Tony), and Missy (Eric). Twelve nieces and nephews. She was the most loving Grammy to fifteen and Great- Grammy to one. The youngest of five, Eleanor was predeceased by her siblings, Anne, Harry, Herb and Lil.
