Obituary

Eleanor M. Kalai (Pezzano) of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, August 24, 2020 at the age of 84 years old. Eleanor was the beloved wife of Daniel D. Kalai for 67 years; cherished mother of Denise Mattia (Thomas), Daniel Kalai (Maria), Doreen Horan (Michael), Diana Kalai (Joe), and David Kalai. The caring grandmother of Derek, Ken (Lauren), Deanna, Scott (Melissa), Crystal (Jim), Michael (Deb), Daniel (Lisa), Malia, Candace, Christina (Shane), Isabella, Victoria, Michael, and Jordan. The loving great grandmother of Davin, Jacie, Mikey, Natalie, Dean, Jayna, Tommy, Shane, and Savannah. She is the loving sister of George Pezzano (Betty), Maryellen Arrivello (Michael), Vincent Pezzano (Arlene), and preceded in death by her sister Theresa DeSimone (William), daughter in law Linda Kalai, and her parents George and Tillie Pezzano.

Eleanor Kalai was born on April 13th, 1936 in Philadelphia, PA to George and Tillie Pezzano. She was the youngest girl of their five children. When she was in high school, she met her husband Daniel Kalai and they got married on May 4th, 1953. They went on to have five children of their own. She was a long-time resident of Northeast Philadelphia where she and her husband Dan raised their five children and 14 grandchildren. Eleanor and Dan visited Hawaii often and met their extended family. She fell in love with the Hawaiian islands and they decided to move there for a period of time. They eventually moved back home to Philadelphia to be closer to their ever growing family. Eleanor had a very successful career with the Internal Revenue Service for over 30 years. When she retired from the IRS, she selflessly helped raise her grandchildren throughout her retirement. If you were lucky enough to meet Eleanor (Terry), you immediately felt special. She had a way of making everyone feel at home and truly held a special place in everyone's hearts. To this day anyone who has had her in their life, even for a short time, has nothing but praise for her. She will be greatly missed by many.
