Obituary

Edward T. Brown, of Philadelphia, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020. He was 75 years old. "Ed" as he was affectionately known by to his family and friends, was born in Philadelphia on January 13, 1945 to the late James Earl Brown and Helen M. (nee Hughes) Brown. He was husband to Susan M. (nee Wingert) Brown with whom he is survived by.

Ed served in Vietnam where he was awarded with several service medals. Coming back home he worked as a carpenter with his father while attending St. Joseph University. He graduated with a degree in Political Science. His interest in politics led to
a 40 year career both as an employee of the city of Philadelphia and later the State of Pennsylvania.

Ed had a high moral code with a strong sense of trustworthiness and integrity. Our best memories of Ed are about his love of family especially when it related to food. He loved to fire-up the grill for a barbecue, eat German food and drive to the Lobster House in Cape May for a chicken dinner. He would tirelessly explain all that he knew about the world of wine and beer; he knew quite a bit.

Ed's greatest gift was his devotion to his wife, Susan. It was his constant support which made it possible for her to bring meaningful art programs and joy through ARTZ Philadelphia to those living in memory care communities and centers. He is remembered for his commitment, dependability, warmth and for his great grin.

Along with his wife Susan, Ed is survived by two daughters, Margaret M. Smith (Karl), Joan C. Brown and his grandsons, Erik J. Smith and Henry W. Smith. He is predeceased by his infant son, James H. Brown. Ed is also survived by three sisters: Helene C. Brown, Eileen B. McCullough, Catherine B. Merenda and his sister-in-law, Dorothy McKenna-Brown. He was predeceased by his brother, James Brown and two sisters, Patricia Hingley and Barbara Gracyalny.
