Obituary

David J. Potter "Dave". 90, passed away peacefully at his Philadelphia, home, with family at his side, on June 12, 2022. Son of the late Daniel and Rose (nee Dulong) Potter, Dave was born in Manhattan and moved to Philadelphia at a young age. Dave attended St. Francis Vocational School and graduated from North Catholic High School in 1950, where he excelled in typing and athletics. Dave joined the Navy in 1951 and served as a Radioman - Seaman during the Korean War.
After his military service, Dave worked for the Philadelphia Inquirer, followed by twenty-one years as a Rate Clerk at Spector Freight, where he was elected by his co-workers to serve as shop steward. After retiring from the trucking industry, Dave had varied jobs, working in an Atlantic City Casino, and as a security guard in Philadelphia. In 1984, Dave began working in the Philadelphia Prison System as a clerk typist, and in 1986, he became a Correctional Officer. In 1997 Dave earned the honor of the Philadelphia Prison System " Correctional Employee of the Year". He retired from the city in 1999. A longtime friend of Bill W., Dave was always humble, and kind to others. He had a keen and ever-present sense of humor, was a lifelong amateur photographer, a skilled handyman, and an avid Philly sports fan. He also enjoyed visiting his children and grandchildren in Florida.
In 2005, Dave met his beloved Patricia "Patsy" (nee Malley). They married in 2007, and had their reception at the Warminster VFW. Dave embraced Patricia's children and grandchildren and loved them as his own. Dave had always been a dancer, but Patsy introduced Dave to a whole new world of dancing! Together, they enjoyed their time dancing at the Bristol Senior Center, Warminster VFW (where Dave celebrated his 75th Birthday with family and 100 friends!), and local Polish Home dances; also during numerous trips to Wildwood and Florida.
Dave was a dapper dresser at the dances, and he and Patsy especially enjoyed the Halloween Events! His prowess at "Jitterbug" dancing was widely known (they called him "Rubber Legs"), and he derived great pleasure from spending time with Patsy and all of his beloved friends from the dances. Dave is preceded in death by his brothers Bill and Jack, his children; Daniel and Lorraine, and is survived by his loving wife Patricia, children David W.(Aida), Eric (Ruth), Steven(Debbie), Kerry Lynn Bonnot, Debbie Keely, Karen Hyde, and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at St. Martha Church 11301 Academy Road Philadelphia, PA 19154 on June 23, 2022 at 9:30 am, with a Mass to follow at 10:30am
